About Catherine

It’s always been easy for me to have lots of love for Canada. As a native Canadian, I enjoy a both the vibrant cities full of excitement for young people, and the many opportunities to explore more remote parts of the country too. In my day-to-day life, it’s important for me to live an eco-friendly and health-conscious lifestyle. I like to take my kids on outings to the apple orchard in fall, a sugar shack in the spring, and to the many city parks during winter for ice skating, cross country skiing and snowman building. What better way for me to show my thanks to Canada then to help others with their journies of relocating to the country? I hope that I, and the rest of the Settle-in.com team, can help ease your mind during your transition. //

The Quebec Maple Syrup Heist of 2012

When you relocate to Quebec, you will no doubt one day be told about the infamous Maple Syrup Heist of 2012, and think that people are joking. Well, they are not.

You see, here in Quebec, maple syrup is actually worth a substantial amount of money – more than 10 times the price of crude oil per gallon. And since we produce more than 60 per cent of the world’s supply of maple syrup, it is more than worth its weight in liquid gold.

Pesticides in Quebec

For more than 20 years, the Quebec government has been working to control pesticides in order to help protect the drinking water in cities and towns, as well as to avoid the harmful health effects these products can have on animal and humans. The general rule if you are looking to kill weeds in your driveway or garden is to go to a store like RONA or Canadian Tire, and buy a product that is ready-to-use.

Urban Living vs. Suburban Living in Montreal

When you are in the process of relocating, one of the biggest decisions in choosing where you want to live. Do you want a spacious yard, a large house, multiple bedrooms and floors, a garage? Or, would you prefer a nice apartment within walking distance of everything you could possibly need, a smaller living space to take care of, and the thrill and bustle of the city life?
