In Quebec, all public preschool, primary, and secondary education, as well as continuing education and vocational training, is governed by the French School Boards Association (CSDM, Commission scolaire de Montreal) or the Quebec English School Board Association (QESBA). Administration of the school boards lies in the hands of a councilors commissions, for which members are elected by vote, and sit on the council for four years. They are joined by annually elected parent representatives. Educational services offered at each school, continuing education centre and vocational centre, are determined by the school boards.
The responsibilities of the English school boards and French school boards in Quebec include providing and orchestrating quality education services, that is effective in responding to the educational need of youth, adults and organizations within their territories.They are also in charge of childcare services for preschool and elementary students, organizing transportation for students and providing extra services such as lodging and food, in order to make educational services more accessible.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, and with the diversity of the school they cover in mind, the school boards in Quebec serve advocate for the student. They work to provide the correct education for every student, from youth to adult, and to improving their institutions, in the areas on education, administration, finance and labor relations.
